Eleuthera Downtime

On our last morning in Governor’s Harbour we walked to town to eat breakfast at Da Perk, which is a popular coffee shop/breakfast joint. It reminded us of the little hole-in-the-wall coffee places we love at home. Da Perk has a group of persistent chickens in residence there, with whom Morris was obsessed, and who stole food off of people’s plates. It was pretty funny, and irritating at the same time. We did a little shopping then went back to the boat to move it to Alabaster Bay where we would have a beautiful beach and great protection from the big winds and stormy weather.

Da Perk

The next 2 days at Alabaster Bay were a little stormy, windy, and otherwise peaceful, which was nice. We were one of two boats in the bay; the other boat was one we had met before named Latidoods. They are from Colorado and have a Leopard catamaran as well, and two labradoodles. Their boat is brand-new and very cool; we got to check it out when they had us over for happy hour one afternoon. Tommy and the boys went spearfishing where they saw lots of grouper but had no luck spearing them. The bay has a couple of very shallow sand bars, so at low tide the beach extends all the way to a small island/cay where we did a lot of beachcombing. There were dozens of sand dollars and starfish on the sand bars whenever the tide went out. There wasn’t much to do since the weather was crummy, but the boys made the best of it and tied our fenders to the davits and created rope swings that they jumped off of and swung on for hours. Our friends who all stayed in Rock Sound started heading north, closer to where we were anchored, so we hung out for another day thinking we could work it out so that we could re-connect with them. I am glad our family had a beautiful place to be during those few days.
