Sailing Ohana

Our friends from Colorado, the Vasel family, came to stay on the boat for a few days, then at a little resort on Stocking Island (Georgetown) near Chat n’ Chill. They brought all kinds of goodies from home with them, as well as things we needed and couldn’t get here. We were so thrilled to see them, and unpacking was like Christmas! We sailed up to Rudder Cut Cay and on the way, Sarah reeled in a tuna which was attacked by a barracuda at the moment Tommy was trying to get him on board. The bite from the barracuda caused the tuna to break free of the hook and heartbreakingly sink into the ocean. After a couple of days at Rudder Cut where we experienced a full 360° clock wind shift, we headed down to Lee Stocking Island. The winds and weather weren’t totally cooperative during their stay, and various systems on the boat kept acting up (starboard engine overheating, generator still not working, dinghy bilge filling with water, re-working the bridle) which was annoying. Brian helped Tommy troubleshoot and work on fixing things.

Back in Georgetown while the Vasels stayed at the resort, we played a lot at the beach, took them to Crab Cay for jumping off the cliff, and had some down time.

Although the conditions were not as perfect as we hoped for, our friends got to peek into the reality of our lives on the boat, which was really cool. It took courage and a lot of effort for them to take this trip into the unknown and we’re so grateful they did. There’s nothing like our peeps from home… Our hearts are full, and it was hard to say goodbye to them.
