Return to Shroud

It was lovely to be back on Shroud Cay, since we have only been to new places so far this season. We spent a some time on Shroud last season, but it was during a “blow”, so we didn’t get to do the big attraction, an area called The Rapids, or the Washing Machine. It’s a really cool spot that is a beautiful dinghy ride through the mangroves from the anchorage, to where the water flows out to the ocean. There is a large sandbar that creates an eddy effect, and you can jump in and float it like river rapids and end up at the sandbar. We went at the perfect time, when the current was just strong enough to make it fun and a little scary. We spent a long time there, jumping in, playing on the beach, and having fun.

Shroud Cay is part of the Exumas Land and Sea Park which is a no-take zone. I paddleboarded to the beach with Spencer while Tommy and Jackson took the dinghy exploring. They left the Park boundaries where they were able to spear several fish, including a large invasive lionfish for dinner. The fish were really difficult to process and de-bone, plus there were a zillion scales on them. I keep joking that there will be scales turning up on the boat for months, maybe years…. Probably not worth it, even though dinner was pretty good.
