One Night Only – Glass Window Bridge and Queen’s Bath

A joyful reunion with our friends on Grace and the rest of the kids boats was spent at an anchorage in north Eleuthera where we just needed one night. The Glass Window Bridge is a spectacular spot between the Atlantic and the Exuma Sound, where the ocean has eroded through the land and created a giant opening. The bridge that was built over it has been damaged and re-built over the years and is still the only way to get to the northern part of the island on land. The contrast between the dark blue/black and crashing waves on the Atlantic side with the light tourqoise blue/green on the Exuma side is striking. The power of the ocean waves is a bit scary when you’re up close. We climbed up to the bridge and saw a herd of goats on the other side… Good thing Morris wasn’t with us then!

Our next stop was the Queen’s Bath, which is a series of pools that have been created in the rock by the waves from the Atlantic. Again, the power of the ocean was on full display as we tried to judge how close the kids could safely get to the water.

We ended the night at a local restaurant which is near Lenny Kravitz’s house and where his mother is from. Prominently displayed was a giant cardboard cutout of him next to something like a shrine with photos and autographed things. They had a band playing Bahamian music and covers of American classic rock and it was a fun, funky scene. We danced and played cowbell.
