The oldest marina in Nassau was our next destination, where we bought fuel, groceries, did laundry, and bought a couple of things we needed for the boat. And by “a couple of things”, I mean fishing stuff. Nassau is not our favorite place – it’s rough and the marina was crowded. We had a nice dinner with the Adiona family at the marina restaurant called the Poop Deck, which the boys thought was hilarious. The marina was doing covid tests for visitors who needed to test after arriving, so we were able to get our tests handled easily.
As we were sailing over I opened up the bag that our main sheets and reefing lines are in, and inside there was a very recently deceased flying fish. Somehow it must have caught a gust of wind as it was jumping, and was carried about ten feet above the water line, head first into our bag. It was pretty shocking to look in the bag and see a bright blue fish wedged in with all the lines. At first I thought it was a joke, then I thought one of the boys misplaced a lure, but as soon as I looked closer, it was obvious what had happened. We used it later as bait.
